Vanguard Award Selection Committee is proud to announce that Plant City
High School senior Nicholas Rodriguez received the April Student Athlete
of the Month award on May 22, 2013. Vanguard Attorneys, a Florida personal
injury law firm, created the award program to honor the hard-work, drive
and discipline necessary for student athletes to have a positive impact
in athletics, academics and the community. Members of the committee, coaches
and Plant City administration gathered to present Nicholas with the award
as well as a $1,000 check to be donated to the school’s athletic
department on his behalf during the school’s morning show.
Sherrie Mueller, Plant City’s college and career counselor, explained
that Nicholas is an extraordinary young man who is a natural leader among
his peers. In fact, he was recently recognized with the YEA! Award (Youth
Excellence and Achievements) by Hillsborough County for his outstanding
leadership and community service. During his senior year, Nicholas was
the captain of both the football and baseball teams. He also founded Team
ToMarrow, a Relay for Life team which registered 79 potential bone marrow
donors and raised $5,000. Next year, Nicholas will attend the University
of Florida where he plans to major in engineering.
