On the morning of Thursday, October 3, Ryan Turner, a resident of Corona,
California, was killed in a
motorcycle crash that occurred in Garden Grove, CA. The other vehicle involved in the accident
was a FedEx delivery truck.
Emergency rescue units and police responded to the collision between the
truck and motorcycle near the Orangewood Avenue and Monarch Street intersection
just before 12:30pm. Turner was pronounced dead at the scene.
Accident investigators believe both the rider and delivery truck were headed
eastbound when the motorcycle accelerated in an attempt to pass the FedEx
truck on the right. As Turner moved in to pass, the FedEx driver began
turning right into the driveway of a business on the corner of Orangewood
Avenue, according to police reports.
Turner first collided with the delivery truck, then struck a tree and was
ejected from his motorcycle, landing on the pavement several feet away.
The driver of the truck was not injured in the incident.
Authorities did not comment on who was at fault in the crash. However,
in most states, it is illegal to pass any vehicle on the right-hand side,
particularly if the action involves driving on the shoulder or “splitting”
the lane. It is not known whether the FedEx driver failed to use his turn
signal in an effort to deter Turner from attempting the maneuver. Confirmed
accident details are still pending a full investigation by local authorities.
