On Thursday, February 6th, a Miami man responsible for causing three fatalities
in a violenthit and run accident in 2011 has been sentenced to 20 years in jail. Earlier in January, Cedric
Williams, age 52, pleaded guilty to the offense as jurors deliberated
and made an apology to the families of the victims. In addition to his
prison sentence, Williams will serve 10 years’ probation upon his release.
Following the fatal traffic accident, Williams admitted to police that
he was under the influence of alcohol and also driving with an expired
license and tag. He was attempting to evade police when he crashed into
another vehicle. Robert Wissler, age 25, was driving his Honda Civic when
Williams, driving a van at a high rate of speed, passed through a red
light and slammed into him.
After the crash, witnesses told police they saw the driver of the van flee
on foot into a nearby neighborhood. Dean Wissler, Robert’s father,
explained how his son had been on a date earlier in the night and that
two passengers; Lindsey Ennis, age 20 of Duluth, GA, and Kayla Elizabeth
Bain, of Putnam Station, NY, were visiting Miami. All three were killed
in the collision.
The fourth passenger in the car, Robert Judd, age 69, of North Miami Beach,
was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition. After
