On Saturday, August 13, 2016, Big County Preps will be holding its Teen
Summit event. This is a conference for student-athletes within the area
to come out, participate in interactive workshops and listen to various
seminars. The goal of the organization is to provide these student-athletes
with the details they will need during their transition from high school
into college and the pros and cons.
The seminar will detail the truths about the world of NCAA recruiting,
how to deal with the media, professionalism on and off the field, and
alcohol abuse, something that is far too common on U.S. campuses. The
seminar will feature Katherine Smith of Bright House Sports Network (Media
Etiquette), Kevin Snead, the University of South Florida Senior Associate
Vice President and Health Dean of College of Pharmacy (Professionalism),
and Rob Cassidy, the Southeast Region Scouting Director for Rivals.com,
and Corey Bender, Scout.com’s Florida Recruiting Analyst (NCAA Recruiting).
From Vanguard Attorneys, managing partner Elizabeth Munro will be the workshop
instructor for the alcohol abuse portion of the seminar. She will discuss
the challenges that these young athletes may face as they enter a different
environment and how alcohol abuse, particularly drinking and driving,
can impact their futures.
