Attorney Arthenia Joyner, who serves as of counsel to the firm and who has served as a member of the Florida Senate for 10 years, is thrilled regarding the addition of Ms. Perez to the firm. A zealous advocate for the community with 48 years of legal experience over the course of a groundbreaking career as a civil rights activist, community leader, attorney and elected official, Joyner is pleased to see the continuation of strong female leadership and a persistent focus on fighting for justice.

 

Karina Perez received her B.S.M. from Tulane University in 2007 and graduated from Loyola University in 2010, cum laude. A member of the Florida State Bar, she is admitted to practice in both the U.S District Court for the Middle District of Florida and the Southern District. She is also a certified Continuing Education Instructor for the State of Florida. “My fierce passion to fight for justice for my clients is born out of a desire to provide peace of mind and security to individuals who have been wrongfully injured by the negligence of others. Throughout my career, this desire has fueled my commitment to successfully handle challenging and complex claims in order to provide justice, compensation, and restored livelihood for my clients,” reflected Ms. Perez on her approach to handling personal injury claims.

Senator Arthenia Joyner Receives Helen Gordon Davis Lifetime Achievement Award

Last month, at the annual Kennedy-King Dinner, the Hillsborough County Democratic Executive Committee honored Senator Arthenia Joyner (D-Tampa) with the Helen Gordon Davis Lifetime Achievement Award.

This honor recognizes Senator Joyner’s lifetime commitment to helping the people of Florida through her various actions in civil rights movements and other leadership abilities. She realizes the importance of this recognition as it embodies Helen Gordon Davis’ spirit and cause.

The leadership qualities displayed by Senator Joyner is what led her to be first selected to legislature 16 years ago. She was the first black woman elected to the position and her ongoing leadership has led to countless victories for those she represents, in and out of the courtroom.

Arthenia Joyner Recognized By The Luminaries 2016

Senator Arthenia Joyner, an Of Counsel Attorney for Vanguard Attorneys, has been recognized by the Junior League of Tampa in partnership with WEDU as a part of The Luminaries for 2016. This recognition is designated for the outstanding men and women who have had an impact on the community in Tampa through leadership. This recognition means that Arthenia Joyner has proven to be an inspiration in women’s issues, civil rights issues, and more in Tampa.

Attorney Joyner was Hillsborough County’s first African American female lawyer. She is well-respected by her peers and other legal professionals for her persistence in the law. She always tries to do what she feels is best for those who trust her in her position. She is a supporter of people standing up for what they believe in and taking action whenever it is necessary to make your voice heard.

“You have to stand up for what you believe in. It was my belief and I knew that as an American, as a black woman whose ancestors helped build this country, that I had a right to be respected and treated like every other American. I was willing to stand up, go to jail, or die for what I believe was right.”

Elizabeth Munro Participating in the Big County Preps Teen Summit

On Saturday, August 13, 2016, Big County Preps will be holding its Teen Summit event. This is a conference for student-athletes within the area to come out, participate in interactive workshops and listen to various seminars. The goal of the organization is to provide these student-athletes with the details they will need during their transition from high school into college and the pros and cons.

The seminar will detail the truths about the world of NCAA recruiting, how to deal with the media, professionalism on and off the field, and alcohol abuse, something that is far too common on U.S. campuses. The seminar will feature Katherine Smith of Bright House Sports Network (Media Etiquette), Kevin Snead, the University of South Florida Senior Associate Vice President and Health Dean of College of Pharmacy (Professionalism), and Rob Cassidy, the Southeast Region Scouting Director for Rivals.com, and Corey Bender, Scout.com’s Florida Recruiting Analyst (NCAA Recruiting).

From Vanguard Attorneys, managing partner Elizabeth Munro will be the workshop instructor for the alcohol abuse portion of the seminar. She will discuss the challenges that these young athletes may face as they enter a different environment and how alcohol abuse, particularly drinking and driving, can impact their futures.

Vanguard Attorneys Participates in Swope, Rodante Vanguard End of the Year Awards Banquet

On Wednesday, June 1, the Swope, Rodante Vanguard End of the Year Awards Banquet was held at The Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City. We are pleased to announce that our legal team at Vanguard Attorneys is part of this program, and our very own Attorney Elizabeth Munro attended the event. During the awards ceremony, various speakers honored the achievements, outstanding performances, and community involvement of various student athletes and coaches.

Markese Hargrove, a senior football player from Plant City High School won the MVP Student Athlete Away. Hargrove plans to play football for the University of South Florida and pursue a degree in Computer Science. Jeanette Rosado, the soccer coach for Leto High School, was elected Female Coach of the Year. Last but certainly not least, Mark Altimari was awarded Male Coach of the Year. Altimari is a track and cross-country coach for Robinson High School.

Vanguard Attorneys’ Community Outreach Director Alonzo Ashwood will be attending the G3 Be More Awards Banquet this Saturday, June 4, 2016. G3 Life Applications, Inc. is a Tampa-based non-profit holistic mentoring organization with a goal of cultivating spiritual, mental, and physical wellness within youths and young adults between the ages of 6 and 18, especially inner city youth.

Statistics show that there are many underprivileged youths throughout the Tampa Bay Region in need of positive effective exposure, tangible mentorship, and the opportunity to broaden their perspective about all kinds of extracurricular activities. G3 works to impact youth, young adults, and communities by transitioning their thinking and inspiring them to excel. Its Be More programs include a focus on literacy, college preparation, life and social skills, and healthy living, and are led by experienced instructors with a passion for improving lives and affecting change. Since its incorporation in 2013, G3 has already served more than 3,000 young people.

The Be More Awards Banquet, described by participants as “Christmas in the summer,” will conclude the 16-week Be More programs. Program participants will be recognized for their accomplishments and pivotal growth moments while being encouraged to continue to strive for excellence in their daily lives.
