The Swope, Rodante Vanguard Award Selection Committee is proud to announce that Plant City High School senior, Kellyanne Hurst has been selected as the “December Student Athlete of the Month.” The mission of The Swope, Rodante Vanguard Award is to celebrate outstanding high school student athletes and coaches throughout Hillsborough County. Members of the committee, Plant City High School administration and fans plan to gather to present Kellyanne with the award as well as a $1,000 check to be donated to the school’s athletic department. The award presentation will take place prior to a basketball game at 7:30pm on Wednesday, January 22nd at Plant City High School.
Plant City High School’s college and career counselor, Sherrie Mueller, nominated Kellyanne not only for her athletic ability and academic achievements but also for her giving nature and exceptional commitment to serving the local community. As Vice President of the Civenettes, Kellyanne has taken a lead role in service projects. This past holiday season, she helped the club adopt two 8-year-old girls and provided them with gifts. Last year, she played a pivotal role in helping the club collect more than 1,500 pounds of canned goods for those in need.
In addition to making a difference in the community, Kellyanne is an exceptional student-athlete and has been a true leader throughout high school. She has kept academics a top priority and is ranked 5th in her class. Recently, Kellyanne won the General H. Norman Schwarzkopf Leadership Award in recognition of her exceptional performance in academics, athletics, community service, good citizenship and leadership.
In 2012, she was recognized as Mid-Florida Junior Golf Tour Player of the Year. As captain and MVP of the 2013 girl’s golf team, she was named to the first team All-Western Conference. After graduation, Kellyanne plans to continue her golf career as a student at the U.S. Naval Academy.
Each month of the school year, The Swope, Rodante Vanguard Award Selection Committee recognizes the “Student Athlete of the Month.” The winning student receives an award recognizing his/her achievements as well as a $1,000 check that is donated to their school’s athletic department in honor of their outstanding performance. Student Athletes of the Month are also eligible to be named the overall “Student Athlete MVP” at the end of the year and receive a check that is applied towards their college tuition.
The Swope, Rodante Vanguard Award also recognizes outstanding coaches. At the end of each school year, two coaches – one male and one female coach –are recognized for their remarkable contributions, both on and off the field. Each Coach of the Year is presented with $1,000 as a way of thanking them for their commitment to making a positive impact in the community.
