Press Release: Sean Shaw Joins Florida Law Firm Vanguard Attorneys

Tampa — Vanguard Attorneys, a boutique personal injury law firm located in the heart of Ybor City is proud to welcome The Honorable Sean Shaw to their team. The appointment of Mr. Shaw underscores and bolsters the firm’s unique commitment to making a measurable impact both in and out of the courtroom. An award-winning and dedicated trial attorney, Sean Shaw is a fearless advocate for consumers, notably running for Florida Attorney General in 2018.  Sean was the Democratic Nominee for Attorney General and was the first African-American nominee for Attorney General in the history of the State of Florida.

Mr. Shaw joins an illustrious and widely recognized team, including Managing Attorney, Karina Perez and former State Senator, Arthenia Joyner who served the people of Florida for more than a decade in the Legislature, both as a State Representative and State Senator and is the longest practicing black female lawyer in the history of Florida.

With over 10 years of experience representing insurance policyholders throughout the state of Florida, Mr. Shaw is a public champion for insurance policyholders as the founder of the Policyholders of Florida, a statewide consumer advocacy coalition.

Mr. Shaw’s current role with Vanguard Attorneys builds upon decades of service. In 2016, Shaw was elected to the Florida House of Representatives from District 61, which encompasses East Tampa, Ybor City, Progress Village, Seminole Heights, and parts of West Tampa. During his time in the legislature, he focused on mentorship programs, closing the gaps in the public school system and ensuring that all kids have access to the best education needed to obtain a bright future. Prior to his time in the legislature, Mr. Shaw was appointed as Florida’s Insurance Consumer Advocate by Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink, where he fought to protect Florida families and businesses on insurance matters.

A distinguished attorney, Mr. Shaw has been recognized as a Super Lawyers ‘Rising Star’ since 2017 and was selected among The National Black Lawyers’ Top 40 under 40 in 2017. Legislatively, Mr. Shaw was recognized by Florida Workers Advocates as the Legislative Freshman of the Year in 2017. The same year, he was honored with The Florida Bar Trial Lawyers Section’s Legislative Leadership Award. In addition to Mr. Shaw’s strong advocacy in the courtroom, he is also the host of WTMP’s radio show ‘Vanguards of Democracy’ where he provides a perspective and commentary on politics and issues faced by Florida consumers.

Sean Shaw is licensed to practice law in Florida and Washington D.C. and is authorized to appear before any state or federal court in the state of Florida.  He is also the proud son of the late Leander J. Shaw Jr., the first African American Chief Justice of the Florida Supreme Court.
