On Tuesday, March 25th, a woman from St. Petersburg lost her life and three other people were injured following a violent three-vehicle accident in which one vehicle overturned and landed on its roof. According to St. Petersburg police, the car accident took place when a white Honda Civic traveling east on 38th Avenue N, driven by Tuong Nguyen, age 63, of St. Petersburg, proceeded to turn left onto 34th Street N.
As she was making the left turn, Nguyen clipped the back of a Ford Escape driven by Vayneveu Kene Bruessard, age 25, who was headed westbound on 38th Avenue N, according to police. The Ford Escape SUV spun out, skidding counter-clockwise and crashing over the median and into oncoming traffic. The Ford SUV then flipped over its passenger side and landed on its roof. Bruessard, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected from the vehicle.
The Ford then spun and slid into an oncoming Ford F150 truck. The driver, George Lawler, age 68 of St. Petersburg, was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg and treated for minor, non-life threatening injuries. The truck’s passenger, Joshua Blalock, age 30, also of St. Petersburg, was not injured in the traffic crash.
Bruessard sustained a traumatic brain injury and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency rescue units. Nguyen was treated at the accident scene for minor injuries. Police noted that the crash remains under investigation.
