Strawberry Crest Student Athlete Honored with the Vanguard Award
February 8, 2013 (Tampa, FL) —The Vanguard Award Selection Committee was thrilled to present the January Vanguard Award to Strawberry Crest High School student athlete, Mazeed Aro-Lambo, on Wednesday, February 6th. Vanguard Attorneys, a Florida personal injury law firm, created the award program in recognition of the hard-work, drive and discipline necessary for student athletes to have a positive impact in athletics, academics and the community. Aro-Lambo was honored during the Strawberry Crest morning show which airs daily and is broadcasted to students, teachers and faculty.
Scott Vomacka, Strawberry Crest’s head soccer coach, nominated Aro-Lambo because, despite facing adversity, he has been able to succeed and make a positive impact in the community. A beaming Coach Vomacka attended the presentation along with Strawberry Crest’s IB program coordinator, Tiffany Ewell. Ewell was proud to explain that Aro-Lambo is a member of the IB program, a rigorous and academically demanding course of study that allows high school students to earn college credits.
Aro-Lambo is currently ranked 6th in Strawberry Crest’s first graduating IB Class and plans to attend Northwestern University on a full academic scholarship. He was incredibly grateful to receive the award and took some time after the ceremony to share his experiences in the IB program and continuing education plans.
ABOUT THE VANGUARD AWARD
The mission of the Vanguard Award is to celebrate the outstanding achievements of local student athletes. These students provide a strong example for fellow peers and positively impact the school system as a whole.
Each month of the school year, The Vanguard Award Selection Committee recognizes the “Student Athlete of the Month.” The winning student receives an award recognizing his/her achievements as well as a $1,000 check that is donated to their school’s athletic department in honor of their outstanding performance. Student Athletes of the Month are also eligible to be named the overall “Student Athlete MVP” at the end of the year and receive a check that is applied towards their college tuition.
The Vanguard Award also recognizes outstanding coaches. At the end of each school year, two coaches – one male and one female coach –are recognized for their remarkable contributions, both on and off the field. Each Coach of the Year is presented with $1,000 as a way of thanking them for their commitment to making a positive impact in the community.
